It’s pretty clean, ‘cept for the gravel which is laid down, which I prefer as an alternative (both environmentally and functionally) to the salt they slather down in TO.

“Western world” cities are all pretty clean as is shown by the list. Also ‘mid size’ cities are clean as they don’t have the problems of population. But the definition of “clean” is sketchy.

London seems like a giant outdoor urinal in the summer, while New York seems like a giant outdoor garbage dump in the summer.

And as we know from the other thread – Toronto and Vancouver suck and Halifax doesn’t. So there we go.

Sure there are some dirty spots here in Calgary, but compared to other cities, its damn clean out there. I do agree that the construction is flippin’ redonkulous though! I got stopped by a hard-hat-wearing worker twice this morning on my way to work so trucks could turn. Not to mention all the lane/road closures.

The sprawl issue is overblown. It is based on a metropolitan definition vs. the actual city itself. If Calgary was like London and was made up of 90,000 little towns there wouldn’t be the comparison issue. London, as an example, has 13 million people living there, mainly in row houses. To drive around the M25 which essentially circles London metro-proper it’ll take you about 3 hours @ 100 km/h or the distance from Edmonton to Calgary. London’s downtown is even smaller than Calgary’s – the City is literally a square mile and Canary Wharf only has a handful of buildings.

That being said I am a fan of density – build up dammit, build up.

I have to agree with this finding; Calgary is the cleanest city that I’ve ever visited. Why, there’s nary a graffitied wall!
