$30 6GB Rogers iPhone Plan

MaxPower July 9th, 2008

This is just out this morning, showing that Rogers has somewhat backed down from their previous plans, with a limited time offer.

Effective July 11, and as a limited time promotional offer for customers
who activate by August 31 on a three year contract, a data-only offering of
6GB of data for $30 per month is being made available that can be added to any
in-market voice plan.

I predict this is just enough of a climb down that people will feel they won a victory and go out and buy the iPhone, when I thought the Canadian telecom industry was close to facing the music…

If this is actually true, it’s quite amazing that they actually listened.. The day the giant caved?

Yeah that is what I think most people will think.

But given that is only good until Aug 31, 08 and has to be combined with a voice plan, and is only good on the 3 year plan, I don’t think it is such a huge cave. If they announced a 6GB data plan, which was standalone and was permanent I’d say they would have listened. I think this is just a savvy PR move.

BTW it is good for all smartphones, so you can pick up a Blackberry Bold or whatever with this same plan.

And of course it is true, didn’t you read the press release? :P

They haven’t caved until I can get unlimited local calling, unlimited nation-wide calling and unlimited data for $100 a month like I can in the USA.

This was an opportunity to really hold Rogers (and all telecoms) feet to the fire but it doesn’t look like people will stick it to Rogers come friday.

These guys say an iPhone could cost you $6,132.74. over 3 years (in Ontario).

I haven’t checked the math, just thought it was interesting.
