Oh Sony…

Poor Sony. So misguided.

Sony CEO Howard Stringer has described the Nintendo Wii merely a “nice gaming device” and something of a novelty.

“I’ve played a Nintendo Wii,” Bloomberg reports Mr Stringer telling delegates at a business conference in California last week. “I don’t see it as a competitor. It’s more of an expensive niche game device. We’re selling a lot of PlayStation 3s now and it’s still the best way to buy a Blu-ray player.”

Expensive? C$269.99 at FutureShop

PS3 is C$399 after a few thousand price cuts. Remember when Sony guys were saying it is worth C$679? I do.

But I am glad Sony finally wised up to the fact that the only reason anyone would buy a PS3 would be to use it as a Blu-ray player. And the “best way” means $20 cheaper vs. a stand-alone Blu-ray player.

So by Mr. Stringer’s calculations:

Nintendo Wii = Niche Gaming System
Sony Playstation 3 = Blu-ray player with some gaming ability
Xbox 360 = Default next-gen gaming platform???

His words, not mine. Can you tell I’m not a fan? As I said on July 13, 2006 (almost 2 years to the day – spooky) Xbox 360 + Wii for the win.
